DoT seeks the Attorney General’s view on initial spectrum allocation to TTSL
Earlier, the operator had paid the requisite fee to the government in 2008, but was not allocated the initial 4.4 MHz of spectrum each for GSM and CDMA services. The initial 4.4 MHz of spectrum to be awarded was linked with the licence in each service area.
The government had decided to allocate the initial spectrum to TTSL in November 2012, following the conclusion of 2G spectrum auctions held in February 2014, subject to the availability of spectrum.
However, on January 31 2014, the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) dismissed TTSL’s petition seeking 4.4 MHz of stat-up spectrum in the Delhi circle and across 39 districts in nine telecom circles. However, this is in violation of TDSAT’s own 2011 order, in which it had asked DoT to allot 4.4 MHz of 2G start-up spectrum to the operator.
So far, the company has been unsuccessful in bagging start-up spectrum in the Delhi circle, though it had received the letter of intent from DoT.
